Special Education Programs Online

Special education programs online - how they prepare teachers of students who are learning disabled, developmentally challenged, or gifted and talented.
Special education teachers work with students who have special needs such as: learning difficulties, speech and language impairments and other communication difficulties, emotional disturbances, behavioral disorders, physical disabilities, and developmental disorders. But as well as working with students who are learning disabled or developmentally challenged, they might also assist students who are gifted and talented.

73% of Teachers Use Cellphones for Classroom Activities

More middle- and secondary-school teachers are using digital tools in their classrooms and professional lives, a new report says. A study by Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project released Thursday delves into teachers' increasing technology use, but also expresses educators' concerns about the digital divide.
The study surveyed Advance Placement and National Writing Project teachers across the United States, and 92% say the Internet has a "major impact" on their ability to access content, resources and materials for teaching. Teachers are becoming advanced tech users, according to Kristen Purcell, Pew's associate director for research.

Why the Real Power of eLearning is Social Learning

We know that content is of greatest use when we can access it in the context of a specific challenge, not when we’re provided it in a class or an eLearning course and try to remember it until we take the end-of-course test - content is (almost) all. So we need to replace content with context – learning through doing, rather than learning through knowing.
That is why social learning is such an important element in learning and needs more focus. It is not just ‘social’ for the sake of being social. Workers will want to co-create. Lots of the learning content of the future will be generated by people who are doing the work rather than by specialist training instructors and learning specialists. Learning professionals need to think about how they can facilitate and support this, rather than creating the next greatest content-heavy eLearning package. Instead they need to think about helping workers make connections and building communities where they can mine their own learning.

At the January 2013 World Economic Forum in Switzerland, global leaders were dazzled when a 12-year-old Pakistani girl, Khadija Niazi, testified that she had been able to receive free, college-level instruction through MOOCs — massive open online courses. Initially offered through independent providers such as Udacity and Coursera, they’re now being produced and shared by long-established universities as well. MOOCs differ from earlier online learning programs in their open, social nature: They’re available to anyone and students are encouraged to discuss content together.
